Friends

Hey everyone, just thought I would mention that James Lobo our former student employee stopped by last week before Thanksgiving. He is doing well, working at the World Bank as a debt underwriter. He will be flying home to India for the first time in three years to see his parents for Christmas. His sister is pursuing a computer science degree at Mason now and his brother is still living in D.C. They will all be flying home together (20+ hour flight). James thinks he will probably return to India once he has finished his internship at the World Bank. He said to say hi to everyone. I told him about the holiday potluck. That's all folks!

Holiday Potluck

Everyone please give some thought to the following dates for our holiday potluck at my place: Dec 9th, 10th, 6th, or 17th. if we do it on a friday, I'll leave a bit early and take any food you all have brought to my place and set it up, and then people can come over after they finish their shift. or we can do a saturday evening.

we can also stay here on a friday evening after work; however, I'm happy to host. so please give some thought and let's take a vote on dates, etc.

everyone is invited: fulltime, part-time, feel free to bring your significant other or a friend. Please also think about what you'd like to bring, and you can let me know, so that I can provide some other items to make our spread cohesive.... hmm that's a little too work sounding.... but you get the gist!

Reports to Read

I'm routing a copy of the President's Library Task Force and a report on emerging library trends published by the Council on Library and Information Resources. I'd like each of you to read this. I'll share more about this in our staff meeting, or for an advanced copy of my comments.... feel free to go to the agenda for our staff meeting. oh and while you're there.... don't forget to add your items.... remember our virtual format, with everyone reading the notes in advance and bringing their questions, so we can focus on our guest speaker and discussion items.

Inclement Weather Policy

A copy of the Inclement Weather Policy has been placed in each of your mailboxes, please read it prior to our staff meeing on Thursday and bring your questions.

Staff Meeting Agenda Items Needed

our staff meeting is this coming thursday the 17th, Steve Gerber, new music librarian, from JCL will be here that day and Polly will be here. Everyone, please put your agenda items on the agenda for our staff meeting. Polly will be taking part of meeting to give us an overview of Tech Services and their goals for the coming year. Steve will be here all day making the rounds with everyone and then attending our meeting.

Dehumidifiers have been turned off

I turned off the dehumidifiers today, our humidity has dropped to 15%, it should stay between 40 and 60% according to best practices in climate control in libraries. Our tracking device is 10% off, I believe that Nancy is ordering us a new one, but in the meantime, if you see 25% on the device that really means that its 15% humidity in here.

Get Plugged In!

Look around the library... notice something new? What's that on the wall above the carrols? OUTLETS!!! That's right, we've had several new outlets installed so that users can plug in their laptops while they work. Feel free to mention this to patrons, since they blend in a bit...

Thanks to Mike Ruais and his crew for the installation!
